Neither. When a lawyer takes a case he/she does not determine guilt or innocence, that is the job of the judge. A lawyer zealously represents the client, without being judgmental.
Yes, I know that sounds odd. How can you look at a person an not decide of they are guilty or innocent? As a lawyer you are trained not to look at the guilt/innocence decision but rather look at the process of how you can represent your client's situation in the absolute best possible light to the court. In conferences with my clients I really do not care if they are guilty, what I want to know is the circumstances of how they got there and details of what happened. |
