    hi!
i'm currently living in a 2 bed maisonette, i have 2 children a boy of 2 and a half and a girl of 11. the council have told us they will not consider moving us till my boy is 7???!!!!
my girl is currently sharing a room with him, and she is currently going though puberty and needs her own space.
there is no room to put him in with us.
and judging by questions i have already asked on here private renting is not an option and sadly we are in no position to buy yet.
any advice on what i can do, to perhaps give the council a shift along?

Unfortunately NO!! I am not in this situation but where I am I know people who have 3 kids (boy 13, 2 x girls 7 and 2) and they live in a two bedroom. Unless you rent privately, which you say you are not in a position too, you just have to wait x

There is no way to get the council to move you, you could speak to your doctor and see if he could write a letter stating that your daughter needs to have her own room and see social services as they have rules regarding children sharing. you could also ask to see their exchange book, this is where people put down what they have - bedrooms, garden, area etc and what they want - less/more bedrooms, area and see if you can get an exchange.

good luck, my cousin has 4 children, 2 girls and 2 boys and only has a 2 bed house, she was told that in cardiff there is a 10year wait due to shortage of houses.

I have just read my council house guidelines - the ones you get with the form and it states that no child over the age of 10 should be in a room with a sibling of the opposite sex. check this out. Saying that, there is such a shortage of council housing that it will be a long wait. You are going to have to get yourself on the transfer list - or go to the council offices and look at the transfer folders and see if anyone is wanting a swop.

Everyone is allocated a 'points system' when it comes to social housing - the more points you have, the higher up the list you are.

It's a sorry state of affairs but if you have a partner or child who has a disability - either physical or mental, that will earn you more 'points', therefore shunting you further up the list.

If the shared bedroom is big enough to be divided, it might be worth asking the council if they could fit stud-partitioning (easy for them to fit and then dismantle when you eventually get re-housed). This will offer a little privacy as then each child can have their own - albeit smaller - space.

I have a 11yr old girl sharing with a 9yr old boy council says there is no way to get a bigger house as they have all been bought. I've divided the room along it's lenght with a curtain for privacy.
